Change Your Mind, A Neurologist's Guide to Happiness - Book Review

283 pages of thought provoking, soul-searching concepts await readers in D.V. Pasupuletis new book, Change Your Mind. This self-help, inspirational non-fiction delves deep into viewing lifes issues with a renewed sense of objectivity.

The author shows how the accumulated stress caused as a reaction to issues or people is greatly reduced when individuals are equipped with self-knowledge. This knowledge also provides us with freedom from limitation.

Questions like: What defines me? The services or jobs I perform, the titles I am known by, this body, this hair this mind? will have readers contemplating the true meaning of their lives. Keeping our minds so busy and distracted from our selves, we are too occupied to witness and digest each moment therefore we are unable to learn and find ourselves living a cycle. Lists of wants, such as getting into a house mortgage, simply get added to with new wants. A need for escape ensues and addictions can also surface.

The author looks at the global concept of happiness and attempts to write as if he was talking with readers face-to-face. He shows how everyone has a common goal finding a sincere feeling of contentment or happiness with the world around us.

Feeling less sorrow, jealousy and anger towards others will happen when we realize that humans all have their own interests and views. For instance, who is more wise or intelligent? - The fellow on a balcony on the third floor of a building or the fellow sitting at the caf table. Neither is more advantaged than the other, one simply sees a view of the far horizon where the other will see things on the street up close and detailed. They are simply viewing and experiencing life differently and this does not make either of them better than the other.

Soon, the author helps readers realize that their unhappiness derives from focusing on material wealth, their body or performance when in reality, the soul leaves all of this behind. Acceptance, perception, alertness and awareness become the keys to understanding and feeling content with life Mr. Pasupuleti shows readers that all of these keys are under our control and through them, this world of contradictions can be viewed with an open mind and embraced with an objective, realistic heart.

Multiple examples and metaphors are used to drill the fundamental concepts into the readers mind. These sometimes became a bit too much for me to digest, as the series of examples were tiring for my mind. However, the author makes it clear from the start that this educational tool has proven to be very effective and he regularly employs in his practice as an educator, doctor and editor of the Michigan County Physicians Magazine.

In his search for understanding, the author studied many new and old religions, and studied many fields of interest including psychiatry and neurology. Mr. Pasupuleti has been awarded with the Outstanding Teacher Award from MSU and was included in the 2000 Outstanding Intellectuals of the 21st Century by the International Biographical Center. He draws on this education and experience to bring readers an intellectual book that will have them contemplating the meaning of their lives much more deeply.

Those who have read this book may also enjoy another of my favorite books in this genre: Second Innocence, by John Izzo.

We show how to make a real and visible difference, while saving money at the same time. Publisher: Publish America Released: July 21, 2004

Author of Towards Understanding (ISBN#1-4137-9337-1) - This book of 120 poems is written in chronological order. It is a story of survival, of breaking the chains of inner demons, finding value and purpose in life and growing towards understanding - but not quite reaching it. The poems also embrace the environment and question society. Towards Understanding will reach today's female audience because it is a true chronological story of a young woman growing through childhood trauma, being independent at age 13, moving through healing, finding self-worth and questioning society. I truly believe, and hope, that the book can help other women. Publisher: Publish America. Earliest Estimated Release: Late December, 2005
