Take care of those awards of achievement

The definition of a trophy

Trophy is coined from the French word ‘trophee’. This means anything that the winner gets for victory. During war times, these trophees used to be an armour, a knife or even the body part of the looser. Trophies act like a sense of achievement and are therefore, admired for years. Wood and metals are no more the only items used for making trophies. Manufacturers have started using crystal and marble for making them. For an extra-ordinary performance, which leads to victory, people receive trophies that are nothing but mementos. These trophies are forever and keep reminding the person about the victory. Many a times, they serve as a proof of victory as well. Trophies come in a variety of types, sizes and shapes to meet every budget. Silver and gold trophies are the most expensive trophies and are the most preferred ones.

What to do with a degraded trophy?

Many people recommend taking help of professionals who deal with restoration of ancient artifacts. However, the chances of reversing the damage completely are rare. Trophies need the same care and attention that any expensive item would require. They should be prevented from any damage. If the trophies have already been damaged, restoring it is difficult.

Protecting your trophies from degradation

Whenever we touch the trophy, we leave our skin oil on it. This oil also makes the object look dull by accumulating dust on it. With time, dust takes away the shine of the object and makes it look dull. The trophies therefore, need frequent light dusting. The medals and trophies should not be exposed to direct and prolonged sunlight as this may cause the metals to expand and loose shape. Dampness is one of the most common reasons for trophy damage. Mold and mildew damage the trophy material. These objects should be kept in a climate-controlled environment.

Preventing degradation of trophies

Degradation of trophies and medals is a natural process as they are made of metals. A proper maintenance can prevent early damage to them. People accept that their trophies have reached a state when they cannot be displayed anymore due to negligence. To display their achievement, people often place the trophy at the most common place of the house. However, the idea of maintenance never strikes the owner.
