Adult sites at work decrease employee efficiency

While the economy is booming and more and more organisations go online every day, employees do not always utilise the Internet resources the way they are intended to. Many of their work time activities are even not related in any way with their actual job, making their work time inefficient and labour costs more expensive. According to the research, some of 37% of employees surf the Web at work for personal reasons, ignoring corporate policies and Internet usage limitations expressed by the employer.

While not all work time surfers visit harmful sites, some 70% of them confessed they have been visiting adult content sites or doing adult related email correspondence and chatting. A serious threat has arisen for company owners and managers, because non-work related employees' activities not only decrease overall performance, but also destroy morale and defeat motivation. This can have a huge impact on organisational success when not dealt with.

There is also a strong motivation among business owners and managers to combat these risks and to prevent their staff from improper Internet usage. But if they want to tackle these threats efficiently there has to be not only policy, but also a tool in place to enforce this policy. As companies are beginning to take action the IT and HR managers install surveillance and access control to track Internet usage.
More and more US and UK service companies install monitoring software only to discover, a number of employees visit sexually oriented sites regularly while at work and more and more employees are fired for Internet misuse.

By installing surveillance and reporting tools such as statlook, SpectorPro and WebWatcher the employer is in control of what's being done at the network computer. There's another tool statlook going one step further that combines total surveillance features with work time and employee performance analysis, which gives the full insight into the employee activities at work.

'You can't manage it, if you can't measure it' and indeed you cannot manage your HR efficiently without an efficient measurement tool.
